About the artist


               Peter Wood. B.A.HONS., A.T.C., M.I.C.S.I.

Born in Wiltshire, England, 6/6/51, the son of an R.A.F. family. As a child he traveled widely, including Singapore and the Far East. After boarding school, Colleges of Further Education and Technical College he was accepted for Hons. Degree at Camberwell College of Art, London. From there to Brighton University for his Post Graduate Teaching Qualification and then to his first teaching post in Hornsea on the East Yorkshire Coast. His next post took him into the private sector as Head of Art, Craft and Technology at a school in Essex, then, after six years he returned to the state sector, a brief one year contract at Grimsby and then took early retirement after his final five year post as Head of Art, Craft and Design at a High School in Suffolk. During this time he had also become qualified as an Advanced Clay Shooting Instructor, Archery Leader, Ski Leader, Canoeist, and Sailor. His skills now encompassed teaching all of the fine arts, drawing, painting in many mediums, ceramics and sculpture, woodcarving, mixed crafts, computer graphics and more. His interests also include a wide taste in music, he makes and plays certain folk instruments, cooking, swimming and angling, natural history, photography and travelling. His early retirement marked the start of a new life. He became single again, after 18 years of marriage, traveled a little and then settled in a little fisherman’s cottage on the coast at Bridlington, East Yorkshire. He was now able to concentrate on his spiritual and creative growth and has developed his writing of poetry, novels and short stories as well as his painting and craftwork. This has proved successful and he has had over twenty articles in National and International Magazines on his work and Travels, plus Art Residencies in Savannah University America, Burton Ages Hall (a stately home in Yorkshire) The National Sealife Centre Plymouth.

His Paintings have been exhibited in major Galleries including The Ferens - Hull, Spencer Coleman’s – Beverley, Alan Stuttle - York, Marlborough in Wiltshire, three one man exhibitions of both his Paintings and Ceramics at Sewerby Hall and a joint two man exhibition at the Marlborough Gallery in Blenheim, New Zealand. He has also exhibited in Galleries in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex, and has had work accepted by the Royal Academy. After Painting trips to Switzerland, America, and New Zealand has had work in a major Savannah Gallery, and the Taylor Jensen Gallery, Palmerston New Zealand. The International Artist Magazine has featured three articles on his work during 1999/2000, and the Leisure Painter a further two in 2001, two more in July and August 2002, and one in July 2003. The Caravan Club of Great Britain an article on painting in Scotland and the Society of Amateur artists have used instructional articles. Artist and Illustrator have comissioned two articles for 2002/2003. He was Resident Artist at Burton Agnes Hall for July 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 where he not only exhibited and painted in the grounds but based a video and an article on the work produced. A four panel work of the grounds was sold and the proceeds donated to the hall. A large gold leaf bordered polytych oil painting has been accepted into the Hall’s artist's in residence collection. Further videos have been produced painting In Portugal, France, Scotland, The Hebrides, Plymouth, and Spain. He is happy to demonstrate painting, do slide shows, or run workshops in nearly any medium for any ability or society and has done so throughout the country and abroad. Peter has begun a new stage in his life. Having sold his home in Yorkshire he purchased a delightful and most unusual home, next to a river Lot, in the South of France where he is setting up his studios / gallery, will help run courses, workshops and be able to share his other skills. Ne a Wiltshire en Angleterre le 06 juin 1951, il est le fils d'une famille de la Royale Air Force. Enfant, il voyagea beaucoup de Singapour jusqu'a l'Extreme Orient. Apres ses etudes scolaires, college d'education superieure et college technique, il fut accepte a Hons, maitrise au College Camberwell d'art, a Londres. De la, a l'universite de Brighton pour sa qualification d'etudiant du troisieme cycle, a Hornsea, sur la cote est du Yorkshire.

Son premier poste le conduisit dans le secteur prive, en tant que dirigeant d'art, de metiers manuels et technologie dans une ecole a Essex. Puis, apres six ans, il retourna dans le secteur public, pour un cours contrat d'un an a Grimsby, et apres son dernier poste durant cinq ans a Suffolk, dans une ecole superieure, en tant que dirigeant d'art, metiers manuels et technologie, il prit une prompte retraite. Entretemps, il est aussi devenu instructeur specialise en ball trap,en tir a l'arc, moniteur de ski, canoeiste et marin. Avec tous ces domaines de capacites sont ainsi inclus tous les beaux arts, peintures et dessins dans tous les milieux, ceramiques et sculptures, travail du bois, artisanat, graphiques sur logiciel et plus. Dans ses centres d'interets il y a aussi un large gout pour la musique, il a fabrique et joue sur des instruments folkloriques, la cuisine, la natation et la peche a la ligne, l'histoire naturelle, la photographie et les voyages.

Sa retraite precoce fut le depart d'une nouvelle vie. Il divorca, apres 18 ans de mariage, voyagea un peu, puis s'installa dans un petit port de peche sur la cote de Bridlington, dans l'est du Yorkshire. Il avait maintenant le temps de s'occuper de son evolution spirituelle et creative, se consacra a l'ecriture de ses poemes, nouvelles et histoires courtes, a sa peinture et travaux d'art manuel. Cela lui reussit, il eut plus de vingt articles dans des revues nationales et internationales, sur ces travaux et voyages en seminaires artistiques a l' universite americaine de Savannah, a Burton Age Hall ( un imposant domaine dans le Yorkshire) le centre aquatique national de Plymouth.

Ces peintures ont ete exposees dans de nombreuses galeries en Grande Bretagne, trois expositions individuelles de ses peintures et ceramiques a Sewerby Hall et une exposition a deux, a la galerie Malborough a Blenheim en Nouvelle-Zelande. Il a aussi expose dans des galeries a Norfolk, Suffolk et Essex et a fait des travaux pour la royale academie. Apres des voyages de peintures en Amerique, Suisse et Nouvelle-Zelande il put travailler pour la plus importante galerie americaine de Savannah et aussi la galerie Taylor Jensen, a Palmerston, Nouvelle-Zelande.

Le magazine d'artiste international a presente trois articles sur son travail en 1999/2000 et le Leisure Painter un autre en 2001, deux autres en juillet et aout 2002 et un en juillet 2003, le Club Caravane de Grande Bretagne un article sur ses peintures en Ecosse et la Societe des artistes amateurs a utilise des articles explicatifs. Artiste et Illustrateur ont commissione deux articles pour 2002/2003. Il etait artiste residant au domaine Burton Agnes en juillet 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, ou non seulement il exposa et peignit dans les jardins mais y refera une video et un article sur le travail produit. Quatre tableaux des jardins ont ete vendus et les recettes ont ete donnees au domaine. D'autres videos ont ete produites au Portugal, en France, en Ecosse, aux iles Hybrides, Plymouth et en Espagne. Il aime montrer sa facon de peindre, fait des demonstrations, et des ateliers pour toute societe qui en fait la demande a travers le pays et a l'etranger. Peter a passe une autre etape dans sa vie : il a vendu sa maison dans le Yorkshire pour acquerir un endroit peu ordinaire et merveilleux, dans le Sud de la France, le long de la riviere du Lot, ou il a installe sa galerie de peintures pour pouvoir la developper, ses ateliers pour partager toutes ses capacites.
